A “Grade Point Average” (GPA) is the cumulative average reflected on the student’s transcript at the end of the Fall term (January report card) of the Junior year or the Fall term (January report card) of the Senior year for Senior applicants.

GPA will be rounded to the tenths place and listed as the minimum for points allotted.

A student should actively participate in sports, clubs, or community activities and provide documentation of said involvement.

Students will receive ONE point for each approved activity and ONE additional point for each leadership role within an organization. Examples of exemplary leadership positions in the school and community may include a school officer, team captain, newspaper editor, Eagle Scout etc. Students who participate in  sports more than one season can receive a point for each season.

A student may be required to provide written documentation of participation on request.

A student must perform unpaid volunteer service to the school and/or to non-profit community based organizations in the local community. Any questions regarding questionable service must be approved by the NHS advisory board.

Service hours from June 2017 through April 2018 will be accepted with proper documentation.

Students are required to complete at least 25 hours of community service for consideration of membership to NHS.

Service hours may not be used if required as coursework for another class.

A student must participate in NHS sponsored activities where attendance is taken and hours awarded.

A student will be required to provide written documentation of participation on request.

A student must demonstrate high standards of character.

All students start with 5 points in this Pillar.

The advisory board will review Reflections to the Community Agreements, minor incidents, and school referrals.

Points will be deducted for referrals and may be deducted for reflections based on advisory board review.

Greater weight of deductions (or removal from consideration from membership) will be placed for academic dishonesty and disrespectful or threatening behavior.
